Varma remained unbeaten on 51 off 26 deliveries, and won the Player of the Match. His aggressive batting under pressure helped India complete a tough chase after New Zealand posted 180/5 in their allotted 20 overs.

Glenn Phillips and Bevon Jacobs Power New Zealand

New Zealand produced a competitive total after losing early wickets. Glenn Phillips took 70 off 43 balls with four boundaries and four sixes to lead the recovery.

Bevon Jacobs was also a great support and scored 58 off 46 deliveries. Their partnership helped New Zealand recover from a poor start and put pressure on India's bowlers.

Arshdeep Singh was among India's most impressive performers in the field with two wickets for 33 runs in 4 overs. Prince Yadav and Nitish Kumar Reddy also took wickets as India restricted the hosts to 180/5.

India has a tough run chase.

India needed 181 runs to win, so score at a rate of more than nine runs per over. The chase required a strong batting performance, particularly against New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner who troubled the Indian lineup with his spin.

Santner took four wickets for 21 runs, putting India under pressure and keeping New Zealand in contention. His bowling made the chase more difficult because India lost wickets at key moments.

Tilak Varma’s contribution was crucial since the required run rate remained demanding. He kept the pressure on and scored aggressively and kept India’s hopes alive.

Tilak Varma and Nitish Kumar Reddy turn the match

Varma’s 51 from 26 balls was the game’s key innings. His ability to find boundaries and maintain momentum ensured India remained in the race even as wickets fell.

Nitish Kumar Reddy also played an important supporting role, scoring 26 not out off 13 balls. The two helped India move towards the target during a tense finish and combined attacking shots with the composure needed to complete the chase.

India eventually made 181/6 in 19.5 overs and secured a four-wicket victory with one delivery remaining. Varma was awarded the Player of the Match.

India Strengthen Their Position in the Series

The victory followed India's four-wicket win in the opening T20I on October 22 when the team successfully chased New Zealand's 225/4. Sanju Samson scored 67, while Naman Dhir's unbeaten 42 helped India to the win.

The second victory helped India to a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. New Zealand will look to regroup ahead of the third T20I and India will try to maintain their momentum.

Varma’s performance highlighted the importance of middle-order batters who can handle pressure and accelerate when a chase becomes tight. His innings coupled with Reddy’s late contribution turned out to be the key in a contest that went down to the final over.
