Viral Video: Pakistani Fan Waqar Azam Smashes TV After T20 World Cup Loss to India

History plays out again both in the pitch space and within the homes of cricket fans on Sunday. Following India’s devastating 61-run win over Pakistan in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, a video of a Pakistani supporter smashing his television set has set off a viral wildfire across social media as a visceral representation of the frustration building across the line.

The “Waqar Azam” Meltdown

The most widely shared video is one of a fan named Waqar Azam. In the footage, Azam is seen alone in a room — holding a cricket bat. When the last Pakistani wicket landed at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Azam vented his rage on his LED TV. He did not stop at a single blow; the video clearly shows that he keeps banging the screen; even stopping to turn the device around so that the back panel was equally slammed. He captioned the post:

"India defeated Pakistan again, and I just broke my TV in frustration."

Why the Outrage?

The anger for what fans are referring to as the Men in Green’s “one-sided and spineless” performance continues to mount. Aiming for a target of 176, Pakistan’s batting lineup crumbled under the clinical precision of the Indian bowling onslaught.

  • The Onslaught: India’s Ishan Kishan put the ball on the air with a blistering 77 off 40, leaving the Pakistani bowlers with no real answers in the Powerplay.
  • The Collapse: Pakistan was bundled out for 114 runs in 18 overs.
  • The Tormentors: Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya tore down the top order. Axar Patel and Varun Chakaravarthy, each picking up two wickets, pinched the middle order.

"A Routine Matter Now"

The feeling on the streets of Pakistan has moved from hope to tired acceptance of India’s primacy. Interviews with media after the game shared that the viral videos were making fans frustrated. “I think it is just part and parcel now,” one fan complained. “We have no answers to Bumrah. We cannot face Hardik. If this trend continues, we cannot defeat India. They are just at a different level.”

A couple of other viral clips have surfaced, with notable Pakistani YouTubers and influencers like Maviya Umer Farooqui openly taunting their own team, using, in no time at all, the trending saying - Babar Na Barbad Kiya (Babar has ruined us) - on the failure of the former captain to keep the match up to scratch.

The 8-1 Record

In this victory, India extended its unbroken streak against Pakistan in the T20 World Cups to 8-1. This victory also placed India in the Super 8 stage, while Pakistan now faces a "do-or-die" situation against Namibia on Wednesday to maintain hopes of a fair tour.

To Pakistan's point, the 2026 tournament, although also a "TV smashing" tradition, is illustrative of a wider sporting crisis, in which its closest enemies are widening worldwide by the day.
