We introduce Udan Yatri Café, a government-backed initiative that will bring food to travelers at airports. The café provides samosas for ₹20 and tea for ₹10; its prices are not only cheaper than ordinary airport food but also lower than many local street vendors, where samosas often cost around ₹30.
Contrast that with the steep prices typically charged by airports and on flights, and it is being hailed as a move toward passenger-friendly services. The project’s official statement: Air travel still needs to be accessible for all kinds of travellers but it should also be easy enough if you have to work two jobs.
By bringing affordable snacks into the airport, the government wants to address the criticism of overpriced airport food. Passengers, meanwhile, have already started commenting cheerfully and say the café offers a welcome addition to their travels as well as a comfort, especially to frequent flyers or people on a tight budget. With Udan Yatri Café now operational at select airports, the scheme is set to grow, bringing passengers cheaper options in a way they’re comfortable with.
