Mercedes-Benz launched its ultra-luxury range in India with the Mercedes-Maybach S 580e plug-in hybrid with a price tag of 3.35 crore (ex-showroom), becoming the first Mercedes-Maybach sedan with a plug-in hybrid powertrain in India.
The model has been launched in a limited batch of only 30 units for the first batch, making it one of the most exclusive products in the brand's Indian line-up.
Mercedes-Maybach S 580e is all about Maybach luxury with electrified performance. It has a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine, electric motor and battery pack. The combined powertrain provides 585hp and 750Nm of torque and all four wheels get it. This replaces the V8 powered configuration of Maybach S-Class in India.
One of the main draws of the new Maybach is its electric driving power. Mercedes-Benz claims an electric-only range of up to 98km under the WLTP testing cycle. The sedan can also go up to 140kmph on electric power. For charging, the S 580e has 11kW AC charging and DC fast charging at up to 60kW.
The plug-in hybrid system has different driving modes: Maybach, Electric and Battery Hold. The energy recuperation of the car can also be adjusted according to the driver. That way it works as a luxury petrol-electric car and also can be run with electric power for shorter journeys.
Mercedes-Maybach S 580e: Luxury Features
The cabin is the main attraction of the Maybach S 580e. The India-spec model has four seats, rear passengers can sit alone, separated by a full-length business console. The rear seats can recline by up to 43 degrees and have heating, ventilation and massage functions.
The rear cabin also features fold-out tables, wireless charging pads, ambient lighting and temperature-controlled cup holders. Dual rear entertainment displays add to the chauffeur-driven experience, with 31 speakers and a 1,610-watt output (Burmester 4D surround sound system) for premium audio.
The sedan has Mercedes-Benz’s latest digital interface at the front, with MBUX Superscreen, a 3D driver display and a front passenger display with a privacy feature. There’s also augmented-reality navigation and head-up display, which combines luxury with in-car technology.
The Maybach-style interior is complete with Nappa leather, piano-lacquer trim and more handcrafted details. The cabin also features Maybach-style graphics and rose-gold accents throughout its digital displays, so it’s a very distinct luxury sedan.
Exterior Design And Maybach Styling
The S 580e retains the imposing proportions of the Maybach S-Class while receiving a number of design updates. The front has an illuminated grille with the signature Maybach vertical slats, an illuminated Mercedes star on the bonnet and distinctive Maybach badging.
The sedan also has updated Digital Light headlamps with Maybach-specific detailing, illuminated door sills and Maybach logo projections. The India-spec model rides on 20-inch forged Maybach wheels, while the car is around 180mm longer than the regular long-wheelbase S-Class.
Safety And Technology
The new Maybach S 580e has all the driver-assistance and safety features. The features reported for the India-spec model include Digital Light, Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus, advanced driver-assistance functions and a 15-airbag setup. The sedan has AIRMATIC air suspension and rear-axle steering as well, which can help the car to improve manoeuvrability even with the large size.
Mercedes-Benz is also positioning the plug-in hybrid Maybach as another option if customers want electrification but not a diesel-powered car. The company has previously released other plug-in hybrid models in India but the S 580e is the first with the Maybach logo.
Bookings for the Mercedes-Maybach S 580e have started, with deliveries expected to start in November 2026. With an estimated price of Rs. 3.35 crore and only 30 units in the first batch, the model is meant to target the luxury section of India's luxury car market only.
The Maybach S 580e therefore combines the brand’s focus on handcrafted luxury and chauffeur comfort with plug-in hybrid technology. Its 585hp powertrain, nearly 100km electric range and premium rear cabin as well as its high specification technology package are all the things that make it a special addition to Mercedes-Benz India’s top-end lineup.
