September 2026 is currently the most important month of India’s two-wheeler market and there are several new motorcycles and scooters to be introduced in this month ahead of the festive buying period. From adventure motorcycles and electric family scooters to premium maxi-scooters and retro-styled roadsters, these are going to be very different. Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 and Simple Wave are amongst the most eagerly awaited models and Aprilia SXR 175 and Triumph Bonneville 400 are also expected to be launched in India.
The month starts with the Simple Wave, which will be unveiled on September 2. This electric scooter marks the next step for Simple Energy as it looks to move beyond the performance-oriented One range. The Wave could be positioned as a practical and family-friendly electric scooter that will stand against products like the Ather Rizta, TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak.
The Simple Wave test versions have already provided some information on its design and equipment. A single-piece seat and a large floorboard will be a key feature of the scooter that could make it more suitable for everyday commuting and family use. Test mules have also been seen with a front disc brake, rear drum brake and TFT instrument display. But details like the battery capacity, claimed range, variants and final pricing will be confirmed around the official unveiling.
Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 is also expected to arrive in September. The motorcycle will go on display at Royal Enfield’s Himalayan Basecamp in Leh on September 4. The launch date is especially important because it is the tenth anniversary of the original Himalayan 411.
Himalayan 440 is expected to be based on the Scram 440 platform but with styling and equipment for adventure riding. A 443cc air- and oil-cooled single-cylinder engine with around 25.4 bhp and 34 Nm of torque is expected to be used with a six-speed gearbox. A larger 21-inch front wheel could be added to improve its off-road performance and give the motorcycle a more traditional adventure-tourer stance.
The new model is also expected to have a bit of styling cues taken from the Himalayan 411. With a price of around Rs 2.50 lakh ex-showroom, the Himalayan 440 could find itself between Royal Enfield’s Scram 440 and the more powerful Himalayan 450. And with all that adventure-oriented hardware and a relatively cheap price, it could be a great option for those who want a reliable touring motorcycle.
We also know that along with the two confirmed September launches, the Aprilia SXR 175 is expected to be available in India later this month. But Aprilia has not given any official announcement on its launch date, specifications or pricing. The scooter will likely be based on the SR 175 engine and is expected to have a displacement of around 174cc. The engine is expected to produce 13.08 bhp and 14.14 Nm of torque, which is also higher than the current SXR 160’s output.
If launched as expected, the SXR 175 could enhance Aprilia’s position in the premium scooter segment. The model could be a good fit for people who want a very big and powerful scooter with maxi-scooter looks. But the price range of Rs 1.40 lakh to Rs 1.50 lakh is only an estimate till the manufacturer makes an official announcement.
Triumph Bonneville 400 is another motorcycle that is catching the eye of others. The new Triumph Bonneville 400 has even been seen to be testing with wire-spoke wheels, a bigger teardrop-shaped fuel tank and retro-inspired subframe for the upcoming model and is likely to be another addition to Triumph’s growing India-built 400cc motorcycle family.
The Bonneville 400 is expected to share its 349cc single-cylinder engine with the Speed 400 platform, but it is not yet official. But that will not stop people from wishing for a modern bike with that classic Bonneville look.
Although the Himalayan 440 and Simple Wave have specific September dates associated with them, buyers should be cautious with assuming the Aprilia SXR 175 and Triumph Bonneville 400 timelines as they are. Automakers frequently adjust launch schedules based on production readiness, homologation, market strategy and more.
These new models might offer Indian buyers more options in several fast-evolving two-wheeler categories. Electric scooters are becoming more competitive in the family commuter space and manufacturers are also expanding their adventure, premium scooter and modern-retro motorcycle portfolios.
With the festive season coming, September will be a relevant month for manufacturers and customers alike. The Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 and Simple Wave are the most likely to get released and Aprilia SXR 175 and Triumph Bonneville 400 will be worth monitoring for future updates. Final prices, specifications and availability will ultimately decide how much each new two-wheeler can compete in its market.
