Estimates of the price were expected to be around Rs 2 lakh to Rs 2.30 lakh to Rs 2.50 lakh at launch time, with the final configuration and variants of the various variants depending on the final positioning and variant structure. The motorcycle will be marketed as an upgrade for Yamaha R15 customers that want more performance but the compact, sporty quality of the R-series. The main competition is expected to be the KTM RC 200 and Hero Karizma XMR.
Yamaha R2 Booking Details
Yamaha has already started pre-bookings for the R2. Customers can reserve the motorcycle by paying a Rs 10,000 booking amount. The amount is taken as a down payment and will be calculated against the final vehicle price, Yamaha’s official e-shop said. It also says that customers who pre-book before the launch will receive priority delivery, subject to stock availability.
The booking is refundable if a customer then decides not to buy the motorcycle. Yamaha's official booking information says cancellation can start from September 5, 2026 and refunds are processed after cancellation request and are subject to payment charges.
Yamaha R2 Engine and Performance
The engine's one of the main talking points of the motorcycle. Yamaha has not disclosed many technical details ahead of the launch but reports are that the R2 will come with a new liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine in the 200cc-class. Displacement could be around 200cc to 220cc with power potentially approaching 25hp.
The motorcycle is also likely to have a six-speed gearbox and Yamaha could use technologies like Variable Valve Actuation to achieve a balance between everyday usability and high-rpm performance. But Yamaha will have to make it clear exactly what the engine displacement, power, torque and transmission specifications will be until Yamaha officially announces them.
Yamaha R2 Top Speed
Yamaha has not officially announced the R2's top speed in the information available prior to the launch. Thus any top speed number posted online should be considered an estimate and not a specification. The true performance of the motorcycle will depend on its output of the engine, gearing, aerodynamics, weight and electronic calibration.
Design and Styling
The Yamaha R2 is going to look like the aggressive styling language of the R-series.
