Karnataka Health Department raided a five-star hotel near Richmond Circle in Bengaluru late at night after complaints were made that cosmetic treatments and injections were being given in hotel rooms without a registered clinic or proper medical authorisation.
The joint team of the Health Department, Drug Control Department and police inspected the hotel. A complaint was submitted by the Bengaluru chapter of the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists (IADVL) against unauthorised cosmetic procedures being carried out at the hotel.
The authorities said the rooms of the hotels were allegedly being used to provide beauty treatments and injections without a registered medical clinic. Public safety, the qualifications of those providing such procedures, and the legal status of products used have been questioned by the incident.
Weight-Loss Pills and Cosmetic Injection Packaging Found
Officials reportedly found various products during the inspection — weight loss tablets, collagen supplements, and other health products.
One of the important items found was an empty box of fat-dissolving injection (Lipo Lab PPC). The product is meant for medical use, and officials reportedly found that the box did not have a CDSCO import or manufacturing licence number.
The lack of regulatory identification has led to questions about the source, authenticity, and compliance with applicable drug regulations.
Officials should look into where these products came from; whether they were legally imported or manufactured; and whether they were administered by qualified medical personnel.
The discovery has also drawn attention to the risks of cosmetic injections and weight-loss treatments offered outside authorised medical establishments.
Joint Investigation Launched by Health and Drug Control Officials
Officials from several departments were called in for the raid to see what activities had allegedly been done and whether laws or medical regulations had been violated.
The investigation will look at medical qualifications of the people administering treatments; their professional registration status; registration status of the clinic or establishment; origin of products recovered during inspection.
They will also look into whether medical procedures were being done in hotel rooms without the right permissions and infrastructure.
The Health Department has said that if violations are found during the investigation, strict legal action will follow.
The case is particularly important because cosmetic treatments and injectable procedures require appropriate medical knowledge, product verification and clinical facilities. If such procedures are performed without authorisation, customers could be put at serious health risk.
Health Minister Warns Against Unauthorised Cosmetic Treatments
Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao warned that people who put public health at risk would be held accountable “irrespective of the establishment in which they work”.
The minister said people cannot abuse the reputation or facilities of a luxury hotel to do potentially illegal medical activities.
He also warned the public not to be tempted by offers of cosmetic treatment at hotels, private houses or temporary camps.
The minister stressed that people should get injections, cosmetic treatments and other medical procedures only from qualified doctors at registered hospitals or clinics.
He also asked citizens to report suspicious activities to the Karnataka Department of Health and Family Welfare (@DHFWKA).
Our Health Department (@DHFWKA) officials today raided a five-star hotel on Richmond Road, Bengaluru, acting on a complaint that aesthetic treatments and injections were being offered from hotel rooms, outside any registered clinical establishment. The complaint was filed by the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists (IADVL), Bengaluru. A joint team of Health, Drugs Control and police officials found weight-loss capsules, collagen products and other supplements on the premises, along with an empty carton of Lipo Lab PPC, a fat-dissolving injection meant strictly for medical use. The carton did not carry the mandatory CDSCO import or manufacturing licence number. Further investigation is under way into the qualifications and registration of those involved and the source of the products seized. Any violation established will be met with strict action under the law. Whoever puts people's health at risk will be held to account, no matter how upscale the venue they operate from. I urge the public not to fall for aesthetic treatments offered in hotels, homes or temporary camps. Take any injection or treatment only from qualified doctors at registered hospitals or clinics, and report such activities to @DHFWKA immediately.

Why Are Unauthorised Cosmetic Injections a Problem?
Cosmetic injections and weight loss treatments are increasingly popular with people who want quick results, but procedures using injectable products should be assessed by a medical professional and safety measures taken.
When treatments are provided in unregistered establishments or temporary locations customers may not be able to verify the qualifications of practitioners and the authenticity of products administered.
Unverified or improperly administered injections can cause infections, allergic reactions, tissue damage, and other problems.
Similarly, weight loss tablets and supplements should not be taken without understanding their ingredients, safety profile, and possible interactions.
The Bengaluru hotel raid reminds us that we should check medical credentials and choose authorised healthcare facilities before getting any cosmetic procedure done.
Public Advised to Choose Registered Clinics and Qualified Doctors
The Karnataka Health Department’s appeal reminds us that cosmetic treatments should not be treated like ordinary beauty services when they involve medical procedures or injections.
People should check that the doctor is qualified and registered before they get treatment. They should also check whether the clinic or hospital is registered properly and whether the products being used are legally authorised.
Officials said the Bengaluru hotel incident probe will continue “with special focus on medical qualifications, professional registration and source of recovered products”.
The raid has revived concerns about unregulated cosmetic treatment services masquerading as luxury wellness and beauty services.
The Health Department’s message is clear: public health and patient safety cannot be compromised; anyone found violating the law will be punished after due investigation.
