Bengaluru Blast in Pulakeshinagar: Two Injured After Suspected Battery Explosion in Under-Construction Building

Two people were injured in a battery explosion in a developing building at the Pulakeshinagar Police Station in Bengaluru on Tuesday by a suspected explosion of the battery explosion that happened in an under-construction building. The incident triggered a police investigation in which forensic experts and specialist teams arrived and surveyed the site to search for evidence and find out what caused the explosion, police sources said yesterday.

According to Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh, the Pulakeshinagar police received information about the incident later in the evening, though the explosion was reported to have happened in the afternoon. Police later received a medico-legal case (MLC) report from the hospital and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Initial findings indicate the explosion occurred inside a building where interior work was going on. The building was still under construction, though some families were staying elsewhere in the building at the time, the police commissioner said.

The two injured people were identified as workers and a security guard in the building. One of them said he pressed a button on what he believed was a battery-operated torch, then there was an explosion. The investigation is now underway to identify whether a battery or another material was responsible for the incident.

Police have not yet confirmed the cause of that and there could be an explosion with other materials.

One Injured Person Hospitalised, Another Discharged

Both individuals were injured and were taken for medical treatment. One of the injured persons was admitted to the hospital, while the other was discharged, the police commissioner said.

Police are gathering information from injured people in the building and they are among the key sources of information in what happened. The investigators are trying to reconstruct the sequence of events according to what they heard and the physical evidence found from the site.

Initial reports also indicated that the two injured individuals were not originally from Bengaluru. Police are checking their identities and backgrounds by contacting the relevant state authorities and police stations.

Some information from the building’s owner and residents of other flats are also being sought by officials who want to know what was going on at the site before the explosion. This information could help investigators to figure out the materials used in the ongoing interior work and if any equipment or battery-powered devices were used at the time.

Forensic Teams Collect Evidence at the Blast Site

As part of the investigation, a number of specialist teams have visited the location. According to the police commissioner, the ATC team, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team were involved in the investigation to explore and gather technical evidence.

A forensic investigation will play a major role in determining the cause of the explosion. The property materials used and other evidence that could give some clues to what precipitated the explosion are being investigated.

The police said the FSL team's findings would help to establish the materials involved and help to reconstruct the events leading up to the explosion. But until the technical investigation is complete, authorities do not know if the explosion was caused by a battery malfunction or by other causes.

The investigation is being conducted from multiple angles, and officers are relying on witness statements, hospital records, and forensic evidence rather than preliminary accounts and a range of theories rather than a single report that’s right on first hand.

Internal Security Division and NIA Informed

The incident has also led Bengaluru police to inform other security agencies as the investigation continues. Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said the Internal Security Division (ISD) had been notified and its officers had visited the spot.

Police are also in contact with officers from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), according to the commissioner's statement. The involvement of these agencies in information-sharing and assessment does not, by itself, establish that the incident was linked to terrorism or any other organized activity.

Officials are interested in understanding the modus operandi and what happened before deciding whether the type of incident was caused by them. The cause of such an accident will ultimately depend on the evidence gathered during the investigation and technical teams’ work and conclusions that are concluded.

At this point, police have not publicly confirmed any deliberate act or identified a suspect in connection with the explosion. The investigation remains focused on identifying the materials involved, verifying the accounts of the injured individuals, and determining the circumstances that led to the blast.

Bengaluru Police Continue Probe Into Pulakeshinagar Incident

It has raised the safety of equipment and materials used in construction and interior work. But investigators have not yet been able to determine whether a battery-powered device, a different material, or another factor led to the incident.

Police continue to investigate the building and check witnesses’ accounts; and a variety of details from the property owner and other occupants. The forensic evidence will be a good source of clues to the cause and the nature of the explosion.

With two people injured and multiple specialized agencies dissecting the evidence, the priority is to get the facts and determine if there are any further safety or investigative measures that will be needed.

The Bengaluru police did not give a final conclusion to the cause of the incident. Further details will be revealed as an investigation is performed and information from the people connected to the building is gathered.
