The approaching cyclone will cross south Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Narsapuram around midnight on November 2 and early hours of November 3, said IMD.

The weather forecast has made people more alert along the coast especially where winds are expected to be strong, rain heavy and sea rough. Fishermen, coastal residents and those living in low-lying areas have been asked to watch out for the storm.

Rough sea conditions in Visakhapatnam. Visakhapatnam is facing rough sea conditions due to Cyclone Murasu. Sea has turned more turbulent and it’s tough along the coast there. IMD coastal weather bulletin says sea condition along North Andhra coast could be very rough during thunderstorms.

Local cautionary signals have also been hoisted at Visakhapatnam, Bheemunipatnam, Gangavaram and Kakinada ports. These signals warn the fishing communities and those engaged in maritime activities to be cautious.

The changing weather has focused attention on coastal safety — residents are being told to heed official instructions and not move unnecessarily near the sea.

Cyclone Murasu to make landfall. IMD said Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu will move northwestwards and cross south Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Narsapuram (close to Ongole).

The landfall window is between 11.30 pm on November 2 and 4 am on November 3. During this time the cyclone could bring sustained winds of 100 to 110 kmph gusting up to 120 kmph.

The movement and intensity of the storm are being watched as it approaches the coastline. Strong winds are expected in vulnerable coastal areas so normal activities, transportation and infrastructure may be affected.

Heavy Rainfall and Coastal Safety Concerns.

The cyclone will also bring widespread rainfall in parts of Andhra Pradesh. Several coastal and Rayalaseema districts are likely to receive heavy to extremely heavy rainfall which increases the possibility of waterlogging and localised flooding.

The IMD has also warned of possible storm surge (1 to 1.5 metres above astronomical tide) in low-lying areas of south coastal Andhra Pradesh during landfall. Bapatla, Krishna and Prakasam districts could bear maximum brunt of the surge.

Authorities are monitoring the situation and preparing for possible emergencies. People in vulnerable areas should listen to weather bulletins, evacuation instructions and announcements from local administrations.

Coastal communities are being told to take safety first as Cyclone Murasu approaches. Fishermen should not go into rough seas and people should stay away from beaches and exposed coastal areas.

As landfall time approaches the coming hours will be critical for Andhra Pradesh. People should rely on official IMD and government updates rather than unverified information being circulated on social media.
