Bengaluru’s Vidhana Soudha — the state assembly building — could soon become even more spectacular as the Karnataka government plans to use 3D projection mapping and laser light show on it. The proposed initiative will make the grand architectural structure into a visual storytelling platform for Karnataka’s history, culture and heritage.
The project would cost ₹15 crore to ₹20 crore. The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) is gearing up to implement the initiative and Chief Minister D K Shivakumar reportedly gave his approval and agreed to provide funds for it.
If implemented it could give residents and tourists a new way to experience one of Bengaluru’s most famous landmarks.
Vidhana Soudha to Become a Giant 3D Projection Screen
The proposed project will use 3D projection mapping technology on the exterior walls of Vidhana Soudha. It won’t just be coloured lights hanging from the ceiling but images, sound, and lighting effects will come together in a show so that it becomes an immersive experience.
The building’s architecture will be the screen — specially designed images will be mapped onto its structure so that the historic façade appears to come alive through light and animation.
The show will tell the story of Vidhana Soudha (history, construction and architecture), important moments from Karnataka’s history as well as cultural traditions and heritage of the state.
The goal is to make the landmark more attractive to visitors as well as an educational and entertaining experience.
What Will the 3D Laser Show Look Like?
According to the proposed concept, several advanced visual and technical elements will be used in the show.
- 3D projection mapping: Visuals will be projected on the front walls of Vidhana Soudha.
- Architectural lighting: Light patterns will be designed to match the structure and design of the building.
- Sound and visual storytelling: Audio narration and lighting effects will be used to tell historical stories.
- Historical presentations: Events and cultural themes from Karnataka’s history can be displayed on the building.
- Advanced equipment: The project concept includes modern technical hardware (hydraulic equipment included).
- Permanent installation: A dedicated projection mapping system is proposed for regular shows.
Sound, visuals and architectural lighting are what should separate this experience from a decorative light display.
When Can the Public Watch the Show?
The proposed schedule would have shows every Saturday and Sunday as well as government holidays. The government also plans to make the experience free for the public.
If the plan goes ahead as proposed families, tourists and Bengaluru residents could see the show without buying tickets.
The weekend schedule may make Vidhana Soudha an extra attraction for people coming to the city. It may also motivate tourists to include this landmark in their evening sightseeing plans.
However the final launch date, show timings and operational arrangements have not been announced in any of the information about the proposal.
A New Boost for Bengaluru Tourism
Vidhana Soudha is one of Karnataka’s most prominent architectural landmarks as well as an important symbol of the state government and democratic institutions.
The laser show could give visitors a new dimension by bringing heritage and technology together. Projection mapping experiences at historic buildings and monuments have helped cities create evening attractions that are unique to them.
For Bengaluru it could be an opportunity to showcase Karnataka’s history and cultural identity in a visual medium.
The project is still a proposal and details like installation timeline, technical specifications and opening date will be important to watch. If executed well the 3D projection mapping show could become a new weekend attraction for Bengaluru residents and tourists too.
The proposed ₹15–20 crore Vidhana Soudha laser show will bring architecture, history and technology together — giving Bengaluru another memorable public attraction.
