Sony’s PS5 prices rise worldwide on economic grounds. As such, PlayStation 5 will see worldwide price hikes beginning April 2, 2026. PS5 series prices should be on an upward trend based on all models (like the classic PS5, PS5 digital edition, and its next generation-grade PS5 Pro), all based on demand that increases in production costs has led to global economic pressure making this decision. For gamers, this is a rare moment in console history that prices are going up not down (or worse) years after launch of a game.
The PS5 with disc drive is priced at $649.99, Digital Edition: $599.99, and PlayStation 5 Pro: $899.99. These increases can be found in countries like the UK of which it is also launched in Japan. For example, for the PS5 Pro in the U.K. it will be priced at £789.99. In Japan there will be ¥137,980. For accessories the PS Portal will be redesigned because of the price change of the PS5 Pro.
"Continued pressures in the global economic landscape" have caused this hike, Sony said. Manufacturing costs, supply chain issues, as well as currency moves have all contributed. Companies tend to reduce console prices slowly but the move has been more drastic as the picture is becoming so ugly today.
For players, this might mean that it is more expensive to buy a PS5 now. In India, prices are following the global hike and Premium bundles already reach ₹1 lakh. Many gamers felt frustrated - they figured things could be even better and prices wouldn’t be so high all the time. In the past we know that you have to buy a PS5 before April 2, 2026 to be ahead of the game. If a customer is going to purchase a PS5, they should keep waiting until it's officially launched. Indian and foreign retailers are buying the old way, even if the demand is already on eBay till April 2, 2026.
In the present financial climate PlayStation 5 needs to come to market at a higher price point to better make demand for the hardware in a good economy. Sony went on to take PS5 prices up everywhere. That’s just the price to which fans had been expecting. That’s a game I’m not really sure how to look at. I would recommend the customers before it even starts to go to market with them.
