Teenage Girl Wakes Up Inside Coffin After Being Believed Dead In Guatemala

A 15-year-old girl in Guatemala suddenly recovered consciousness in her coffin during her own wake after being believed dead for a little less than 24 hours. The girl, Yuleidy Ixcotoyac, was seen inside the casket during the funeral held in the village of El Jocote in the country’s department of Quiché.

According to the story of the incident, the girl lost consciousness earlier in the day while her father was driving her towards a health centre. Abraham Ixcotoyac, her father, said he noticed that she was not breathing and could not detect a pulse. He thought she had died and ordered a coffin and brought her back home.

At the wake, people saw movement in the casket, they said. They could see the teenager was alive and helped her. She is now conscious and recovering.

Teenager lost consciousness while travelling to health centre

According to her father's account, Yuleidy began feeling uncomfortable early in the morning. He decided to take her to a health centre by car after she became unwell.

But the teenager lost consciousness while they were travelling. Her father said he was taking her to a hospital when he noticed that she was no longer breathing and could not detect a pulse.

Abraham Ixcotoyac recalled in an interview that his daughter had lost consciousness at home before he began the journey to seek medical help.

He said he noticed the apparent absence of vital signs shortly before he reached the municipality of San Pedro Jocopilas.

The father said the teenager did not enter the hospital and did not receive medical attention before he believed she had died. He went to a funeral home and got a coffin and took her back to their home.

The reason for the teenager’s initial loss of consciousness and the lack of medical confirmation of death are still important aspects of the incident.

Movement inside coffin raises alarm during wake

After the girl was brought home, preparations for the wake started. Family members and other attendees gathered to mourn what they felt was her death.

But during the ceremony, people who were present noticed movement inside the coffin. The unexpected movement caused people to check on the teenager.

They later realized that Yuleidy was alive and helped her.

The scene shocked those gathered at the wake, as the teenager had been believed to have died several hours earlier. She remained at the wake for nearly eight hours before people started to notice that the casket was moving, the story says.

The incident also highlights the uncertainty of her condition before she was taken home. Since the teenager hadn’t received medical attention before being believed dead, her condition had not been confirmed by a medical professional.

Girl conscious and recovering after incident

Yuleidy is now conscious and recovering after the incident. However, no details of her medical condition, the causes of her initial collapse, and whether she got any medical evaluation have been provided in the account.

A person who loses consciousness may have many possible causes, and not being able to detect an easily detectable pulse or breathing by an untrained observer does not prove the person has died. Medical professionals are trained to confirm death.

In case of an unconscious person who is not breathing normally, emergency medical services should be contacted immediately. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and an automated external defibrillator may be needed if help is on the way.

The 15-year-old girl has made headlines because she suddenly came back to consciousness. Her recovery remains the most important as questions remain about what caused her to collapse and how her condition was initially assessed.

As far as the full medical details are concerned, what it shows is that when someone loses consciousness, they should seek professional medical assistance and confirm death by certified professionals.
