Not Succeeding Forward: Why Choosing Risk Is to Real Success

If You’re Not Failing, You’re Not Trying Hard Enough

For a fast-moving world today, success is no more just about playing it safe; it’s a matter of taking risks and doing what you want to do in a risk-taking way. This disconnect between a “safe route” and a “risk path” is a good sign of a big reality: comfort can be good for you but will never transform you there. Growth and innovation, for instance, and meaningful results are almost never achievable outside the sphere of certainty.

At best, the safe path is predictable, a matter of order and stability. By contrast, that is the risk path for which there are uncertain things and difficult areas, but when breakthroughs happen we have all the breakthroughs.

The Illusion of Safety

Having chosen a safe route is more responsible. If you reduce risks quickly it’ll keep risk down and have a sense of control. But it’s also the trap that can creep away from you all over the world: people where risk doesn’t play and organizations where it doesn’t play, those are no ways to improve that.

Staying in your comfort zone could deter you from failure—however it is also preventing the discovery phase.

Risk: The Catalyst for Innovation

Risk is the one thing all business, technology, and leadership share in common from the beginning. All entrepreneurs build up new ventures without security and leaders make bold decisions when they are unsure and engineers go bold and innovate beyond proven paths.

Not taking risks when the world economy starts to change might be just as dangerous as the failure itself. Movement is necessary for all things of the future—moving into the unknown is required.

Failure Is Not the End — It Is The Process

Failure is often taken to be a sign of weakness. Success should be not weak but rather an important part, not a hindrance to it. In short, every setback brings lessons learned; as a result, the strategy is sharpened; and the whole thing is developed from these events of failure.

Those who will succeed are people who avoid failure and build upon and follow the path and become better and stronger the better they become. Failure enhances decision making and creates future problems.

Smart Risk vs. Blind Risk

Risk does not mean recklessness. Successful people take calculated risks, that means based on the facts, preparation, and knowledge, and not simply on an action we know and we should act the other way around.

Managing courage at a level of risk while thinking strategically and not simply taking risks leads to that balance. This is the difference in growth-driven risk vs careless action.

The Choice That Decides the Future

The message is simple if it is powerful:

The safe path is comfortable and there is little time nor growth. The risk path offers uncertainty but limitless potential.

At a global level, the people who move forward are the ones who are okay with uncertainty. Failure is too, it’s not fear itself and it’s not something that we should take the opportunity to fear, but it’s evidence of the human work of learning from failure or even human learning as an integral prerequisite for progress.

Because of course, the greatest failure is never trying at all.
