On Padmini Ekadashi, where people gather after early dawn, they start their day on Padmini Ekadashi. Some clean their houses and puja areas before starting the vrat ceremonies. And the devotees fast for the entire time period. Some do not eat or drink anything until the end of the nirjala fast, but others eat fruits and drink milk as per their health and customs.

Particular prayers are made for Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Devotees chant Vishnu Sahasranama, recite Bhagavad Gita verses and bhajans or perform kirtans or bhajans for Lord Vishnu. Many large, dedicated Vishnu temple devotees gather together at the temple of Lord Vishnu on Ekadashi.

Many also offer food, clothes and money to the needy as part of the religious observance. The fast will be broken in Parana time, the following day after prayer and food offerings to the deity.
