Mango is one of the most lovable fruits on earth. Due to its rich sweetness, sweet fragrance, and high nutritional value, it’s also known as the “King of Fruits.” In the summer season, the aroma of ripe mangoes wafts through homes and markets everywhere. Mangoes hold key nutrients, including Vitamin A, Vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants that help sustain good health.
But it is with every food: too much mango can at times have negative impacts on health. So think twice before eating mangoes.
High Natural Sugar
Mangoes are full of high amounts of natural sugar. Eating them in large amounts may raise levels of blood sugar. Men and women with diabetes or those trying to control their sugar consumption should avoid eating the same amount of mangoes. Depending on the individual’s health condition, doctors often suggest eating one or two mangoes a day.
Weight Gain
Something else to bear in mind is weight gain. Mangoes are unbelievably delicious and often cause people to eat way more than they should. But mangoes are very calorie dense and eat too many and you consume more calories. Over the years this may cause incremental weight gain, if not managed with sedentary practices.
Allergic Reactions
People may also have allergic reactions to mango skin, or if they are on sap in their skin. These will give an itch, redness, rash or irritation on the skin. For most sensitive people, wash the fresh fruit well and remove the peel before eating as this can cause reactions.
Digestive Issues
For some people eating too many mangoes can also lead to digestive issues. In excess consumption of mangoes can cause problems like indigestion, bloating, or stomach discomfort. You should also not eat too many mangoes on an empty stomach which may cause digestive discomfort.
Heat-Producing Fruit
Traditional belief holds that mangoes are at times, a sort of “heat-producing fruit.” Large amounts of them can also increase body heat and cause things like pimples or minor skin problems. For this reason, many elders recommend soaking mangoes in water for 20–30 minutes before eating. It is said to eliminate impurities and weaken the fruit’s strength to withstand heat.
The bottom line is that mangoes are such a tasty and nutritious fruit, which can deliver many health benefits when consumed in sufficient quantities and in the correct manner. With moderation, the sweet taste of mangoes is likely to be enjoyed, and the nutritional content will be realised.
