The accused Heeralal was arrested in the case. It got even more dramatic as he allegedly opened fire on police officers while they were collecting evidence at crime scene. Police retaliated with injuries to his legs. Angry villagers reportedly attacked police vehicles and demanded strict action.

The incident took place in the Muskara police station area of Hamirpur district on Sunday afternoon. The three-year-old girl was playing outside her house when she went missing.

Her family members panicked and started searching for her in the neighbourhood and nearby areas as well. Police said that during the search, accused came with the family and other people looking for the child. He “appeared to be helping them in search” but the family continued to try to find the missing girl, police added.

The search ended in tragedy as the child’s body was found in a nearby agricultural field at about 8 pm. The family and residents of locality were shocked to find it lying there. Police say that the neighbour had lured the child away before sexually assaulting her and strangling her with her own clothing.

Family suspected Heeralal and handed him over to police. Allegations are part of investigation and further legal proceedings will establish facts of case.

Police arrived at the spot and started investigation into how the child died. Forensic team also went to crime scene to collect evidence. Case was registered against accused under relevant provisions of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Police officials started questioning suspect and taking steps to collect evidence related to alleged crime.

However, the investigation took a serious turn when police brought the accused back to crime scene as part of evidence gathering process. Officials said that Heeralal tried to escape and fired at the police team using an illegal country made firearm which he had concealed with him.

Police personnel reportedly retaliated in self-defence injuring him in legs. He was first taken to community health centre (CHC) at Muskara and later shifted to district hospital for further treatment. Police said further legal action will continue as part of investigation.

Meanwhile anger spread across Muskara after the child died. Family members and local residents reportedly objected when police tried to take away the body for post-mortem examination. Some villagers allegedly pelted stones at police vehicles. Six police vehicles including those of senior local officers were damaged in the disturbance, reports said.

Police used little force to disperse the crowd and eventually took custody of the body for post-mortem examination. The protests reflected deep anger and grief felt by residents over the incident.

The case has focused attention on child safety and how authorities should investigate crimes involving minors quickly and thoroughly. POCSO Act provides a special legal framework for sexual offences against children whereas relevant provisions of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita apply to other alleged offences.

Investigators are expected to examine forensic evidence available, statements of family and other witnesses and circumstances surrounding accused’s alleged attempt to fire at police officers.

The incident has also reignited public debate about safety of children in residential neighbourhoods and taking missing-child complaints seriously. For the family who lost their child, the discovery is an unimaginable loss; residents want justice and strict punishment if allegations are proven in court.

The accused was said to be undergoing treatment at the district hospital on November 2, 2026 after police firing incident. The body of the child has been sent for postmortem and investigation is going on. Allegations against accused have to be proved through legal process.

Now authorities have to complete investigation, collect evidence and bring case under law. Tragedy has shaken Muskara community and made people aware that children should not be exposed to violence and abuse.
