The makers of the upcoming Bollywood film Dhurandhar 2 have landed in controversy after a legal notice was sent over a scene showing actor Ranveer Singh portraying a Sikh character smoking. The scene, which recently surfaced online through promotional material, has sparked outrage among sections of the Sikh community.
According to reports, a Sikh organization has objected strongly to the depiction, stating that showing a Sikh character smoking is disrespectful and goes against the religious principles of Sikhism. In the Sikh faith, followers are strictly prohibited from consuming tobacco, and such portrayals are considered offensive by many members of the community.
The group has sent a legal notice to the film’s producers and directors, demanding the immediate removal of the controversial scene. They have also warned that failure to make the necessary changes could lead to legal action and protests against the film’s release.
The controversy began after clips from the film allegedly showed Ranveer Singh’s character, dressed in Sikh attire, smoking in one of the sequences. Soon after the visuals surfaced on social media, several users criticized the filmmakers for misrepresenting Sikh traditions and hurting religious sentiments.
The producers of Dhurandhar 2 have not yet issued an official statement regarding the legal notice. However, sources close to the production team suggest that discussions are underway to address the concerns raised by the community.
This is not the first time a Bollywood film has faced backlash over religious representation. In recent years, several filmmakers have been forced to edit or remove scenes following objections from religious or community groups.
As the controversy grows, all eyes are now on the makers of Dhurandhar 2 to see whether they will modify the scene before the film’s release.
