One such place that shares a special bond with the late actor is Vidyarthi Bhavan, a historic restaurant in Bengaluru known for its iconic dosas. The connection between Rajkumar and the eatery is not just about food; it is a story of admiration, humility, and lasting memories.

S. Ramakrishna Adiga, the owner of Vidyarthi Bhavan, has often recalled his cherished interactions with the superstar. Interestingly, Adiga was a fan of Rajkumar even before he moved to Bengaluru in 1962. Later, when he took over the management of the restaurant in 1970, that admiration turned into a personal connection.

According to Adiga, Rajkumar frequently ordered food, especially dosas from Vidyarthi Bhavan, to be delivered to his home. In many instances, Adiga himself would personally deliver the parcels. Over time, these visits evolved into warm interactions, where the actor would spend time chatting, sharing stories, and even singing songs.

A particularly memorable phase came after Rajkumar’s return from captivity following his abduction by forest brigand Veerappan. Despite the traumatic experience, Rajkumar remained cheerful and welcoming. Adiga recalls how the actor would talk about his time in the forest, crack jokes, and engage in long conversations. Even when suffering from leg pain, Rajkumar would walk up to the gate to personally see off his guest, an act that reflected his humility and warmth.

Another interesting anecdote involves superstar Rajinikanth, who once visited Vidyarthi Bhavan and later suggested that Rajkumar should personally dine there. Though a planned visit initially did not materialise, Rajkumar continued to enjoy the restaurant’s food at home.

Eventually, the long-awaited visit did happen. Rajkumar arrived at Vidyarthi Bhavan with his grandchildren around 10:30 AM one day. Word spread quickly, and a massive crowd gathered outside the restaurant. As he stepped out, fans showered him with flowers, turning the moment into a grand celebration. Adiga describes it as an unforgettable experience etched in his memory forever.

The actor also left behind a handwritten note in the restaurant’s guest diary, which is still preserved as a treasured possession. For Adiga and countless fans, Rajkumar was more than just a film star; he was a symbol of kindness, simplicity, and cultural pride.

As Karnataka celebrates his birth anniversary, stories like these serve as a reminder of why Dr Rajkumar remains an enduring legend. His legacy lives not only through his films but also through the countless personal connections and heartfelt memories he created during his lifetime.
