Industry Rallies for Rajpal Yadav: Sonu Sood and Tej Pratap Yadav Step Up Amid ₹9 Cr Legal Crisis

Veteran actor Rajpal Yadav, who plays the lead role as a comic in Bollywood, surrendered in Delhi's Tihar Jail after fighting for ₹9 crore cheque bounce case. Emotional and exhausted, the actor said he was “completely alone” and only had “no money” left to settle the dues, breaking down before surrendering.

The ₹9 Crore Legal Battle

The story dates back to 2010, when Rajpal Yadav borrowed ₹5 crore from Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to finance his directorial debut Ata Pata Laapata. Its massive box office flop resulted in a spiral of debt. Over time, owing to interest and various bounced cheques, he became indebted by an estimated ₹9 crore. 

Notwithstanding several extensions, the Delhi High Court recently refused the possibility of further leniency and ordered the actor to serve his six-month term. The "No Friends" Outcry. Moments before entering Tihar, Rajpal Yadav, tearful, told the media: "Sir, what can I do? I have no money. There are no friends here; I have to deal with this crisis on my own." It sent shockwaves through the industry, causing a number of public figures to break their silence.

Sonu Sood and Others’ Support

While there was talk of several co-stars, Sonu Sood was one of the first to propose a real solution. Steering clear of saying “charity”  Sood told that Rajpal Yadav would be in his next film and offered a signing amount to help with his financial burden. A small signing amount, adjustable against future work, is not charity at all it’s dignity.

When one of our own hits a hard patch, the industry needs to help him realize he is not alone,” Sonu Sood wrote on X (previously Twitter). He further mentioned that the former Bihar Minister Tej Pratap Yadav has provided financial support of ₹11 lakh to the actor’s family, citing human compassion.

In addition, actor Gurmeet Choudhary encouraged the film fraternity to stop being “silent spectators” and to lift the senior artist who has given the country laughter for generations. Future Outlook. Even though he is now in jail, Rajpal Yadav is still involved in significant upcoming projects such as Akshay Kumar’s horror-comedy, "Bhoot Bangla," set to release April 10, 2026. With many fans, in addition to colleagues, hoping they can help see this actor through, they want to see him back on the silver screen.
