Bollywood screenwriter Salim Khan, the patriarch of one of the most powerful families in Indian cinema, was hospitalised at Lilavati Hospital in Bandra Tuesday morning. The 90-year-old, who is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), has since been admitted; however, family members have failed to reveal the exact reason for the admission in question.
Family Rallies at Lilavati
News around the hospitalisation first came to light after the superstar Salman Khan was seen arriving at the hospital under heavy security. The actor, in a simple black shirt and cap, looked serious when he walked through the paparazzi to join his father’s side. Other family members have also been spotted appearing at the Bandra hospital throughout the day, such as:
- Alvira Khan Agnihotri and her husband Atul Agnihotri.
- Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan.
- Arpita Khan Sharma and husband actor Aayush Sharma.
Salman Khan reportedly paused his film shoot at Madh Island to rush to the hospital upon hearing the news, according to reports.
A Cinematic Titan
Salim Khan turned 90 in November 2023. In fact, the vast and giant in the pantheon of Hindi film, he has largely been remembered as half of the well-known Salim-Javed duo. With Javed Akhtar, he redefined the archetype of the “Angry Young Man” that catapulted Amitabh Bachchan to stardom in the 1970s. His films include Sholay, Zanjeer, Deewaar, Don and Mr. India.
Health Status
Although a formal medical record is on hold, some reports suggest that the hospitalisation may be due to age-related complications or “swelling issues”. The family has asked for privacy while doctors do a battery of diagnostics. Post it, so many other characters and fans of, and members of, the film industry have hit social media with “Get Well Soon” messages urging for the quick restoration of the man who arguably changed the grammar of most commercial Bollywood narratives.
