Prabhas’ latest horror-comedy movie, The Raja Saab, has the standard post-opening “second-day blues.” The film jumped to a huge opening at the box office, but after a big sell out on Saturday, it took a nosedive. It did have a big dip in the film and it is no surprise then, having crossed ₹85 crore in domestic net collections within a mere two days.
The Day 2 Breakdown
After a strong day opener for the company, which generated around ₹53.75 crore (India net), it is estimated by early reports from Sacnilk, an industry tracker, that The Raja Saab received around ₹23.77 crore to ₹25 crore on its second day. That is almost 50 per cent lower than Friday numbers. The decline is largely blamed on mixed word-of-mouth and critical reviews that surfaced since the premiere.
Although Prabhas’ outsized superstardom meant a packed house on Day 1, the film’s use of “genre-bending” elements caused a split in response from the wider audience. Total Collections and Occupancy. The total India net collection for the film at the end of Day 2 is around ₹86.67 crore to ₹90 crore. Telugu Market: It's still strongest in its home territory, with an overall occupancy of around 41.59% in Telugu theaters on Saturday.
Hindi & Other Markets
The Hindi and regional dubs (Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam) of the film have seen a much lower rate, contributing a smaller fraction to the total tally. Worldwide Gross: As a result of their decent performance in overseas markets, the film is projected to break the ₹135 crore mark globally.
The “Maruthi” Factor and Audience Response
Director Maruthi has tried to combine horror with Prabhas’ signature style, but critics have drawn attention to some inconsistency in the screenplay and pace. In response to fan feedback, the makers have reportedly inserted a new 8-minute set that showcases Prabhas in a “vintage look” to appease fans who felt his screen time in certain avatars was too short. Sunday is going to be pivotal to the film’s performance. But with no serious competition in theaters, the team is betting on a “Sankranthi” weekend jolt to drive the film toward the coveted ₹150 crore gross global milestone by Monday.
