The movie has just suffered a heavy blow. A handful of the clips, with Vijay’s introduction scene, title credits and even portions of the climax also leaked online. There are reports of an HD print of the movie on pirated websites. For the production team, such leaks are cause for concern, since piracy can dent box office receipts and spoil the thrill of a film at the theater.
Fans have responded severely on social media. Some told me they were angry and disappointed, calling upon KVN Productions to pursue harsh legal charges against those involved. The incident has also intensified discussions around piracy, an ongoing threat to the film industry more generally and at the highest end of the scale that depends on box office success in most theaters.
Another contentious issue has been the timing of the film’s release. Political themes may sway voters. A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Madras High Court asking if politically loaded movies like Jana Nayagan should be released so close to elections. Vijay himself has hinted that conspiracies might be behind the leaks, tying them to his political career.

At the very least there are piracy leaks, legal troubles, and political controversy in his current state. But fans will still be watching Vijay end the big season in the flesh.
