Some surprising happenings were a shooting that left residents on Memorial Drive in Cambridge, Mass., rattled. In the district, videos of a gunman allegedly firing guns at passing cars in open daylight have caused panic in the area.
The dramatic scene came to light on Monday afternoon near River Street, eliciting massive police intervention and temporarily bringing a busy stretch of roadway to a standstill.
The Cambridge Police had been called for a gunshot fire around 1:30 p.m. Witnesses who had parked near Memorial Drive said that a man with a rifle was walking in the middle of Memorial Drive and was firing at random vehicles. Several bystander videos immediately became a sensation on social media, of a suspect apparently discharging the weapon and causing mayhem among drivers and pedestrians.
A few moments after the fact, Massachusetts State Police officers arrived at the scene and then engaged the suspect. The shooter was allegedly shot and taken into custody after a state trooper allegedly traded gunfire with him. Officials acknowledged that at least one person was shot in the incident, but they had not yet revealed any information about the victims’ condition.

Witnesses said bullets hit nearby vehicles in some horrific sights. One driver told local media that when he raised his head and witnessed the gunman shooting at him, he ducked inside his car. As gunfire rolled around the region, people left their vehicles and fled for cover, another witness said.
According to police sources, this is a 46-year-old Tyler Brown, who was known as a criminal. Brown has faced prior charges, including a charge of firing at Boston Police in 2020. A parole officer had also raised concerns about his mental condition earlier in the day before the shooting; there have also been reports.
Memorial Drive was completely closed down after the shooting, as investigators collected evidence left on the spot. Dozens of police cruisers, ambulances and emergency rescuers remained for hours. The warnings issued by Harvard University Police also discouraged students and others in the area from being near the area.
Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey later expressed gratitude to first responders for their action and for preventing something potentially more deadly.
As the investigation has been grinding on, officials said they don’t see any current threat to the public. Viral video clips from the shooting have reignited debate around gun violence and public safety in the United States and have spurred support among social media users who are rattled by the brazen daylight attack.
