A small rural community in northeast Mississippi is in mourning after a violent shooting spree in which six people died in three different locations Friday night. Authorities have taken 24-year-old Daricka M. Moore into custody, charging him with murder in what officials are calling one of the worst crimes in the county’s history.
A Night of Terror
The rampage started just before 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, in Cedarbluff. Based on the reports of Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott, the gunman initially began violence to his own family in a mobile home on David Hill Road. Investigators believe Moore shot and killed his father, Glenn Moore (67), his brother, Quinton Moore (33) and his uncle, Willie Ed Guines (55).
After the first killings, the suspect allegedly stole his brother's Ford F-150 Lightning and moved to a second location on Blake Road. There, Moore broke into his cousin's home, is accused of attempt to commit sexual battery, shot and killed a 7-year-old girl when he tried doing so in a row. In a shocking instance, the Sheriff testified, Moore also had the gun on the head of a minor child but either the weapon failed to fire or a trigger was not pulled.
The spree ended in a temple on Siloam-Griffin Road, at the Apostolic Church of The Lord Jesus. Moore reportedly broke into a house on the church grounds, killing the Rev. Barry Bradley and his brother Samuel Bradley before he fled in another stolen vehicle.
Suspect in Custody
Moore was apprehended at a police roadblock around 11:24 p.m. after a huge manhunt conducted by local and state agencies. He was discovered with a rifle and a handgun.
Moore had no previous criminal record, Sheriff Scott said, and was not “on the radar” of law enforcement. “A scenario like this you’ve got a family member attacking your family,” Scott said at a news conference Saturday. “Whatever that is, we’re hoping we’ll find out.”
Legal Proceedings
Daricka Moore is currently in jail without bail at the Clay County Jail. They charged him with first-degree murder, but District Attorney Scott Colom said he expects the charges to likely be upgraded to capital murder. Given the ferocity of the offenses committed, the prosecution has already said it is seeking the death penalty.
