The violent shooting in Northwest Washington, D.C., on Thursday evening left several people wounded, and police and security agents poured into the area, along with several road closures in the Brightwood neighborhood. The intersection of an arterial highway and an intersection on which some traffic was headed during the evening commute was the scene of a shooting, said the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). 4 shooting victims were hospitalized near Missouri Avenue NW. D.C. Police reported gunfire at the intersection of 16th Street and Military Road, NW, just south of Missouri Avenue.
When officers arrived, they immediately arrived at the scene plus D.C. Fire and EMS to find four gunshot victims. Initial accounts indicated three to five people were injured, but later MPD officials said four were transferred to nearby hospitals for treatment. Their current condition has not yet been released.
Road Closures and Investigation
Police moved quickly to secure the location after the shooting and to gather evidence. The following traffic disruptions were observed:
16th Street, NW was shut down in both directions between Missouri Avenue and Oglethorpe Street, NW. A large police presence lingered at the Missouri Avenue/16th Street overpass for a number of hours. Since 16th Street was a crime scene until late into the night, drivers were told to take alternate routes because the 5900 block of 16th Street was a crime scene.

Detailed suspects and possible motives for the shooting were not released through a statement issued by the Metropolitan Police Department this morning.
