Residents within the United Arab Emirates report at least five explosions around the country. Loud explosions triggered alarm inside Dubai, and air defense programs deployed to battle incoming missiles and unmanned aerial drones.

The UAE’s advanced air defense systems were able to engage multiple aerial threats, preventing much-needed damage in the region, officials say. But such recent events represent a growing concern for even the most fortified urban centers at a time of much greater regional tensions.

Similar alerts have also been issued by state-owned agencies in other GCC countries around missile and drone activities. Defense and security forces, having already been at the frontline planning to respond to what will happen, are telling local residents to be on guard.

At large, many believe that recent attacks in the region are just some more evidence of increasingly international warfare between Iran and regional foes. No organized group has at present publicly claimed responsibility for the recent strikes, but there are suggestions that these strikes could have roots in ongoing hostilities and proxy wars in the region.

The situation has raised grave safety issues about oil pipeline systems, airports, and key commercial hubs. The Gulf region is involved in crucial energy supply; a continuous short of feed from a single nation in the rest of the world could be catastrophic economically.

Residents in Dubai described moments of panic as loud explosions rocked parts of the city at midnight. A swift response was started to assess the situation and to minimize risk, federal police officers said.

But at the moment international observers are watching closely to stay alert, as a further escalation of the conflict will likely result in a larger regional conflict in the Middle East.

The situation is fluid here so far; security agencies are prepared against an escalation in strikes as the possibility of more strikes increases.
