The deceased has been identified as Siddappa Anjutagi, whose dead body was found by the roadside in Chavadihal village on August 16. Police initially suspected that unidentified attackers were responsible, but the investigation later uncovered the involvement of his younger daughter Priyanka.

Siddappa had retired about two years ago and received retirement benefits, police said. He also owned property in his village. Disputes over the property had resulted in repeated arguments between the father and daughter.

Siddappa's retirement benefits and pension-related financial matters are also mentioned in these reports, but police have primarily identified the property dispute and his opposition to his daughter’s relationship as primary motives.

Police said Priyanka’s husband Suresh Masali had died during the COVID-19 period. She later developed a relationship with auto driver Santosh Sindhe. Siddappa was allegedly against the relationship and refused to give Priyanka a share of the property.

The dispute reportedly intensified on August 15 when Priyanka had another argument with her father on the property. Police suspect she later summoned Santosh to the house.

Santosh arrived with his friend Gururaj Biradar later that night, investigators said. The two allegedly strangled Siddappa and assaulted him with a large stone before taking his body and leaving it by the roadside.

The case came under greater scrutiny when Siddappa’s elder daughter Nikhita filed a complaint. Police then found evidence of the younger daughter and her associates in the investigation, said the police.

Police have arrested Priyanka and Santosh Sindhe, while Gururaj Biradar remains at large and is being searched for. A thorough investigation is going on at present.

The case has sent a shock in Vijayapura because of the alleged involvement of the victim’s own daughter. It also shows how disputes over family property, money and personal relationships can turn into serious criminal allegations.

But the facts are under investigation and are subject to judicial process. The accused are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

The incident has once again revived family problems relating to property and financial assets, especially when disputes remain unresolved for long periods. Authorities are expected to gather more evidence, record statements and establish the sequence of events before the investigation is completed.

For now, the Vijayapura police investigation is continuing as two suspects are in jail and a third suspect has been traced.
