Holy Week: When is Holy Week: From Maundy Thursday to Easter Sunday. Holy Week: From Maundy Thursday through Easter Sunday. Holy Week is a very special time of the week. It begins with Palm Sunday and ends with Easter Sunday, and it’s the last days of Jesus Christ’s life as it is a time of the Christian calendar, the last days of a life and death of Jesus Christ, his death, and resurrection. Each day is a holy day in the Christian calendar’s sacred, one of the most sacred days of the Christian calendar. In this article we explain Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday in simple terms.
Maundy Thursday
Maundy Thursday recalls the Last Supper when Jesus shared bread and wine with his disciples. Communion was the cause of this meal. On the same day Jesus also washed the feet of his disciples, and demonstrated humility and service. Many churches do so at night, re‑enact the washing of feet and celebrate the Eucharist. Maundy Thursday is a day of love, sacrifice and giving.
Good Friday
Good Friday is Jesus’ crucifixion day. Christians pray and read and sing hymns about his suffering and death on the cross. Processions and re‑enactments of the crucifixion take place in many places. Good Friday is a day of sacrifice and the cost for forgiveness in the souls.
Holy Saturday
Holy Saturday is a day to wait. It is the day Jesus lay in the tomb after he died. For Christians it is a day of silence and reflection and prayers. Churches hold vigils to prepare for Easter in the evening in preparation for this and for the joy of Easter. Holy Saturday is patience, hope and the belief that light will follow darkness.
Easter Sunday
The most joyful day of Holy Week is Easter Sunday, a celebration of Jesus Christ’s resurrection, the heart of Christian faith. Easter is death versus life, life after death, of renewal. Churches hold sunrise services, families have a feast and Easter eggs are symbolic of a new beginning. Easter Sunday is hope, happiness, togetherness.
Happy Holy Week. Good Friday is a time of service, Maundy Thursday is sacrifice, Holy Saturday we must take on our faith and we can wait for hope and Easter Sunday is renewal and life. Together we are the story of faith and love in a world that is still inspiring people, and for you a story with a lot of life.
