The Mexican OnlyFans model and social media influencer Maria Julissa has formally broken her silence over claims linked to one of the world’s most wanted men. The content creator posted defiantly on her social media channels denying rumors that she’d become the romantic partner of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, or "El Mencho," who leads the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
A “high-profile digital creator” had unwittingly brought authorities to a secure site tied to the cartel leader, which fueled the rumors quickly earlier this week. The attention turned quickly to Julissa, with multiple anonymous accounts and tabloid blogs speculating that she was the "betrayer" or the "unintentional lead" in delivering an extensive blow to the cartel hierarchy.
“Don’t believe everything you read.”
Relenting on Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), Julissa had straight up spoken to her followers about the matter. “I tend to dismiss the bullshit, but this has gone too far. It’s 100% fake news,” she said in a video message. She said she had no ties to organized crime and worried about her own safety given the impact of such dangerous allegations. “People are fucking with my life and my reputation under the guise of clicks.
Not only do I have nothing to do with this world I have never met this person.” The model, who has developed a massive following through her lifestyle brand and OnlyFans presence, advised the public not to share information until it was verified. It also meant that the “evidence” against her largely vague travel photos and “matching” background locations was simply coincidental and so typical of influencers traveling within Mexico.
The dangers of viral misinformation
Security analysts have described how the “influencer-cartel” trope underpins Mexican digital folklore, which is frequently deployed to justify complicated intelligence operations through attention-grabbing narratives. There are some allegations, however, that can pose real-world dangers for the names above. Julissa reiterated that her legal team was currently checking where the original "fake news" was coming from to pursue possible charges of defamation.
Officially, government agencies have not referred to Julissa in any current briefings discussing her involvement with the CJNG. The model said her main concern now is clearing her name and her career, although she acknowledged that the “stigma” behind such a viral rumor is not something easily eradicated overnight.
