NASA’s Artemis II Crew Safely Returns to Earth After Historic 10-Day Moon Mission

NASA’s Artemis II crew were just back to Earth after a 10-day mission the latest milestone in mankind history that takes humanity a step closer to its long quest for deep space exploration. The mission is also a landmark in humanity’s return, and the first crewed mission in the Artemis program since the Apollo program, with its more than five decades going back more than 50 years.

Artemis II was the Artemis programme’s first crewed mission ever. For a while recently, the spacecraft has operated in a nearly entirely lunar flyby path over lunar orbit and used a flyby trajectory to allow astronauts to fly thousands of kilometers far away from the Moon before returning back to Earth safely.

The mission aimed to test essential life-support systems, navigation capabilities and deep-space communications options in NASA’s next generation spacecraft, Orion spacecraft. During the 10-day mission, the crew made scientific tests, ran system tests, and watched live broadcasts of both views of Earth and the Moon that we can’t believe we’re getting at the moment.

The mission was also a crucial rehearsal for Moon landings, including Artemis III, which aims to land astronauts on the lunar surface. The spacecraft finished a high-speed re-entry into Earth’s atmosphere, splashing safely down towards the ocean, where recovery crews were sent to retrieve the crew capsule and astronauts.

NASA officials said all crew members were in good health and that they would be required to undergo medical exams as needed. Artemis II will achieve NASA’s ultimate long-term goals of creating a livable human presence on the Moon, ultimately allowing humans to reach Mars: its work.

The mission also indicates a growing international cooperation between partners such as the European Space Agency and other international space organisations. And now that Artemis II has completed, a lunar era could be in the offing, one which will reshape the planet as it knows it.
