Tehran: Khamenei’s Daughter, Son-in-Law, and Granddaughter Killed in US-Israeli Strikes

After an increasingly brutal series of bombing raids in Iran by the US-Israeli coalition, Iranian state media officially confirmed that several immediate family members of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei were killed during the weekend. On Sunday, the Fars News Agency which maintains close ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that the strikes killed his daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter.

"The news of martyrdom is confirmed."

Such deaths were confirmed in the official report, which confirmed coordination through "informed sources" within the Supreme Leader’s household.

"Tragically the news of the martyrdom of the daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter of the Revolutionary Leader has been confirmed," the agency said. Another report from other regional outlets, Xinhua and Anadolu Agency, indicate that one of the Supreme Leader's daughters-in-law is among the casualties from the Saturday morning strikes.

Targeted Strikes on the Leadership Compound

The killings were carried out during Operation Epic Fury, a massive American-Israeli military offensive on Iran's strategic nuclear and command infrastructure.

Key Details of the Incident:

  • The Scene: Family members were reportedly at or near the Supreme Leader's fortified residence and office complex in central Tehran when it was struck by "pinpoint" munitions.
  • The Toll: Although the family deaths have made rounds around the world, Iranian media reports on the wider strikes have killed over 201 people and injured more than 700, including a tragic incident at a local school.
  • Khamenei’s Status: This news arrives as the Supreme Leader himself seems to be under varying reports. Yet, even as President Donald Trump proclaimed Khamenei dead on Saturday, Iran’s state TV only recently started to mention the “martyrdom” of Iran’s top leadership.

A Nation in Mourning and Fury

The news of the Supreme Leader’s family’s death has shaken the Iranian establishment. State television has moved to show recitations of the Quran and images of people in black-clad mourning outside government buildings. The targeting of family members has been characterized by Iran’s officials as a “savage war crime” and a violation of all international norms, in a televised brief. The IRGC has committed that “no leniency” will be demonstrated in its retaliatory actions, which have already included missile strikes aimed at US bases in the Gulf and targets throughout Israel.

Global Reaction

As the human toll due to the fighting becomes evident, the international community is on edge. The White House has insisted the actions were necessary to eradicate “imminent threats,” yet human rights groups and the United Nations have expressed concerns about the civilian and non-combatant casualties stemming from the bombings in the capital's densely populated areas. As the smoke dissipates over the capital, the attention turns to what the last members of Iranian leadership and the Iranian people will respond to the personal tragedy that has impacted the very heart of the Islamic Republic.
