Antara Banerjee, a model and web series actor, has been arrested by the railway police after an alleged clash inside the AC coach of the Aravalli Express. The incident occurred on August 12 when Banerjee was travelling towards Surat for a shooting assignment.
Banerjee had a sleeper-class ticket, but she was in an AC coach, the police said. This led to the railway personnel asking her to leave the seat and go to the coach for which she had her ticket, they added.
What began as a dispute over seating allegedly turned into a confrontation involving railway security personnel.
Dispute Escalates Inside AC Coach.
According to the preliminary police account, Banerjee was travelling on the Aravalli Express when railway staff noticed she was sitting in an AC coach despite having a sleeper ticket.
When she was asked to leave the seat, an argument allegedly broke out. RPF (railway protection force) officers were on the spot when the situation became difficult to control.
The police say Banerjee then got into a heated argument with RPF staff. The situation led to an official complaint that she attacked an RPF staff member with a razor blade.
According to the police, the actor removed or tore the official's clothing during the fight before attacking him with the blade.
RPF Personnel and Actor Both Reportedly Injured
The incident involved injuries on both sides, reported the sources. The RPF personnel, Mishra, was also injured according to the report. Banerjee was injured as well, the police said.
The circumstances leading to the injuries and the exact sequence of events are now part of the ongoing investigation.
Railway authorities intervened when the situation got heated. Banerjee had to get off the train at Dahanu station.
From there she was taken into custody by the Borivali railway police, who registered a case in connection with the incident.
Arrest Followed by Bail
After the case was registered, Banerjee was reportedly issued a notice and later released on bail. The actress is not in custody, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Police are also likely to look at statements from railway employees and other passengers who could have witnessed the confrontation. Evidence from inside the train might also be sought out for clarification.
The alleged use of a razor blade has made the incident particularly serious, while the reported injuries to the RPF personnel are also being examined as part of the case.
