Police collected about 7 kilograms of suspected ganja in the search. The contraband has been seized and sent off for further legal processes. A scooter and a car, which are believed to have been used to transport the narcotics, were also seized in the investigation.
The operation was conducted by Police Sub-Inspector Navya, together with police personnel Rangaswamy, Naveen and Arun. Police officials said the successful raid is a result of the Hassan district police’s effort to stop illegal drug trafficking and to prevent drug movement from going into the region.
A case has been registered against the accused under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act. Looking for the absconding accused Jabi and his role in the alleged drug network is now being pursued.
Police were also focused on how the seized cannabis originated and whether the accused were part of a larger interstate or regional trafficking syndicate. More investigation is in process to find out who is involved in the supply chain and distribution of the cannabis, said officials.
Drug trafficking is still a major issue for law enforcement agencies in Karnataka and police are routinely conducting raids based on intelligence to shut down illegal operations. Police have urged people to report any suspicious activity related to the sale or transportation of drugs.
The Hassan police said the investigation is ongoing and more arrests may follow as more evidence is gathered.
The law enforcement agencies have reiterated their commitment to fighting against those involved in the illegal drug trade. All contraband and vehicles will be held in police custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
