The Allahabad High Court has granted parole to jailed brothers Mohammad Umar and Ali Ahmed, sons of late gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed.
Which will allow them to attend the funeral of their younger brother Abaan Ahmed in Prayagraj. They will be held under police custody and protection.
Abaan Ahmed, 21, died in a road accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi district on Thursday. According to reports, the SUV in which Abaan was travelling collided with a road divider on the Jhansi-Kanpur highway.
Sonu, 25, also died in the accident, while three other people in the vehicle were injured.
The accident occurred when Abaan was going to meet his elder brother Ali, who is in Jhansi District Jail. The family sought permission from the two imprisoned brothers to take part in Abaan's last rites after the incident.
A bench of the Allahabad High Court granted parole to Umar and Ali after considering the request. The court also directed authorities to make appropriate security arrangements during their temporary release. The brothers will be accompanied by police officials during the funeral.

The parole comes with several restrictions. The court has directed the brothers not to attend any public gathering, interact with the media or post on social media during the parole period. They are also not to participate in any procession or event unrelated to the funeral rites.
After the funeral and family meeting is completed, Umar and Ali will be taken back to their respective prisons under police escort. Umar is in Lucknow District Jail, and Ali in Jhansi District Jail.
The court has also permitted the brothers to meet their younger sibling Ehzam Ahmad and paternal aunt Parveen Qureshi at the location set by the state authorities. The meeting will take place under the conditions set by the court and security officials.
Abaan’s remains were taken to Prayagraj after the post-mortem examination in Jhansi. His funeral will take place at Kasari-Masari graveyard, where members of the Ahmed family are buried.
The situation has come up as unusual in that the two brothers are temporarily released. Their family is able to go about life with the security and legal conditions in place, the court’s decision says.
The case is still under high surveillance in Uttar Pradesh; funeral arrangements and police security, and the return of the two brothers to custody after the final rites are being discussed.
