The Legislative Council serves as the Upper House of the Karnataka Legislature and is a key institution for the review of legislation and for a discussion of the state of Karnataka. Newly elected members will play a key role in the legislative process and contribute to policy-making in education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture and social welfare.

Following the oath-taking ceremony, leaders stressed the need for elected representatives to keep connected with grassroots issues and ensure government programs reach intended beneficiaries. Public involvement, transparency, and accountability are important components of good governance, they said.

The event ended with Gayathri Shantegouda being felicitated and leaders expressing their confidence in her ability to serve the people. Her oath-taking comes at a time when Karnataka is still doing development interventions, welfare schemes and governance reforms to better the people’s lives in the state.

Now Gayathri Shantegouda is formally part of the Legislative Council, and she is expected to take part in discussions and debates of Karnataka’s future as well as politics in general. Political leaders and activists alike have expressed their hope that she will help make the state a better place in the political sphere and in the legislative stage of Karnataka in general.
