A deeply unsettling incident has come to light from Ballia in Uttar Pradesh, where a 50-year-old government primary school teacher has been suspended following serious allegations of attempting to sexually assault a 14-year-old student. The incident has sparked huge outrage in the area and immediate administrative and legal action against the educator, who is now in police custody and facing severe charges.
The accused teacher has been identified as Ghulam Mustafa, also known as Pappu. He was a teacher at the government primary school in Sisotar village. As the Basic Education Department officials at that time stressed that the gravity of the allegations required a quick response to be made to ensure a fair investigation and keep the academic institution.
Manish Singh, district basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) official confirmed the development, stating that the teacher was suspended on Thursday after the primary allegations were brought to the department's notice. The BSA further added that formal orders have already been issued to initiate a comprehensive internal disciplinary inquiry into the conduct of the accused teacher. The official said that if the teacher is found guilty, they will make sure the teacher is punished severely.
Harrowing for the young victim was the incident that took place on July 5, local police said. Ghulam Mustafa used the power he derived from his position as a teacher to lure the 14-year-old boy to his home. The teacher said he needed the student’s help with some specific school-related work or personal errands. Not aware of the danger, he was told by his teacher to go to his house.
With the child in the house, the situation took a predatory turn. The accused locked the main door to prevent any escape or intervention then tried to sexually assault the child. But the boy was able to hold back and was able to flee from the house to tell his family members about the horrible experience.
Following the incident, a formal written complaint was filed immediately by the boy with the help of his guardians. Due to the serious nature of the crime, the police immediately filed a criminal case against Mustafa under the stringent relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and other relevant provisions of the penal code.
After the registered complaint had been received, the police followed up on Monday and arrested the accused school teacher. As required by law, Ghulam Mustafa was brought before a court on Monday and remanded in jail. Under the Supreme Court’s directives on sexual offences against minors, the identity of the victim has been kept secret to protect his privacy and prevent further trauma.
