Bengaluru Job Scam: Couple Arrested for Rs 25 Crore Court Job Fraud

In a major crackdown on job fraud, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police in Bengaluru have arrested a couple accused of running a massive scam by promising government jobs in courts. Jaison D’Souza and Lavina had cheated over 500 people and collected over Rs 25 crore.

According to police investigations, the duo recruited unemployed youth and individuals working in private companies at the promise of “D Group” jobs in courts. They allegedly demanded amounts ranging from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 25 lakh from each victim, because they belonged to an elite class of lawyers based there.

With forged versions of documents of judges’ signatures, the accused achieved a great extent in gaining victims' trust. The appointment procedures included what appeared to be official orders for them to meet their targets, and they believed their jobs were official. Many victims were even called to hotels in their hometown for a check-up and provided fake offer letters.

But the couple had constructed a strong network to perpetrate the fraud and the couple hired agents to identify and contact victims. The agents collected money from the prospective subjects in advance, kept a small commission and distributed the remaining money to the accused. At the same time, this systematic operation allowed their operation to grow to the broad public where money was quickly spent and fraudulations widespread.

They said that when they followed up about job appointments the accused would try and duck out but will come up with the excuse: “tomorrow” or “next week.” But eventually they stopped answering phone calls and caused suspicion among the victims. Several victims got to know they must report these problems and began contacting the CCB.

As far as the Basaveshwaranagar Police Station investigation is concerned, similar complaints were filed also. And detectives found out that the same couple was involved in the similar fraud case long ago. They were arrested in 2024 for promising government jobs but were released and resumed doing the same activities from there on out.

The CCB has taken both accused into custody and is currently conducting an extensive investigation to locate the entire scam and identify other people involved in it. Investigators are also tracking the money trail and recovering all defrauded funds.

Police have warned the public to remain alert and not fall prey to people or agencies that promise government jobs in exchange for money. Government recruitment is fully permitted," the department said.

The latter will stress the prevalence of job scams targeting susceptible job applicants and how better awareness and enforcement should do to prevent such schemes in the future.
