A 26-year-old woman was attacked by her husband with acid and a machete near Narayana Clinic in JP Nagar 3rd Phase on Thursday morning, causing panic in the area. Venkatesh, the accused, was taken into custody by JP Nagar police.
The woman, Madhumitha, was a nurse at Narayana Clinic and had been working there for around one and a half years. The clinic is located at JP Nagar 3rd Phase, Bengaluru.
According to preliminary reports, the incident took place at 9:15 am, when Madhumitha came out of the clinic to have breakfast. It is alleged that her husband followed her and attacked her near the clinic's parking area.
Woman Chased And Attacked
According to the information available, Madhumitha was allegedly chased by Venkatesh before she reached the parking area of the clinic. She raised an alarm while attempting to escape.
The accused is alleged to have arrived on a motorcycle with weapons and acid. In the confrontation, he allegedly attacked Madhumitha with a machete before throwing acid at her.
The attack left the woman in serious condition. She was transferred to a private hospital for treatment.
Madhumitha is originally from Kolkata and had been working at the JP Nagar clinic for about 18 months.
Locals try to rescue the woman
The incident attracted the attention of people in the area. Some locals allegedly intervened after witnessing the attack and tried to save Madhumitha.
According to the preliminary account, people used stones to try to stop the accused. The man also tried to attack those who came to the woman’s aid.
The situation triggered panic in the vicinity of the clinic as people tried to intervene and prevent the assault from continuing.
Traffic Police help Detain Accused
The accused fled from the scene after the attack, but was intercepted near a traffic signal, where traffic police were stationed.
Venkatesh was taken into custody and later handed over to JP Nagar police, who are investigating him for the incident.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack, including the events that led to the confrontation and the relationship between the accused and the victim.
Police Begin Investigation
JP Nagar police visited the site after the incident and conducted an inspection. An investigation into the attack and evidence from the area are expected.
