The deceased had been identified as Kavya (34). Her husband, Kariyappa (an employee of small scale contractor in the city), is in police custody.

The ₹2 Lakh Conflict

The couple, who are originally from Belagavi, had been living in Nagasandra for several years and had two children. Early police studies found that there had been arguments about property and financial stability in the household.

The tension increased considerably last week when Kariyappa came back with ₹2 lakh in cash that he intended for his business or personal savings. But Kavya insisted that this money be given to her brother. This led to a series of heated altercations between the spouses that lasted for seven days.

A Gruesome Act of Violence

The dispute culminated today, Friday, around 12:30 PM. Kariyappa allegedly attacked Kavya after a particularly violent argument. The accused pinned her down on the floor and crushed her neck with his foot, essentially stomping her to death.

Neighbors were alerted to the commotion and called the police. When Peenya police arrived, they found Kavya unresponsive. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared her dead on arrival due to severe neck and windpipe injuries.

Police Action and Investigation

Peenya police officials conducted a spot inspection and shifted the body for post-mortem examination. Kariyappa was caught at the scene and is currently being interrogated.

The couple had a history of financial disputes, but the recent row over the ₹2 lakh triggered this extreme act of violence, said a police official. “We have registered a case of murder under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and are recording statements from the relatives and neighbors."

The tragedy has left the couple’s two children in the care of relatives, which is another stark example of domestic discord and financial pressure on urban families.
