Bengaluru Metro Extended for IPL 2026: Late-Night Services Announced by BMRCL

BMRCL’s metro service at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in India has helped to bring relief to cricket fans for a few weeks. The program is designed to streamline the path for thousands of fans who attend the games to make travel easy.

Also subsequently revealed that the special metro services will also open on April 15, 18 and 24, to coincide with the IPL matches held at the cricket stadium. This is BMRCL’s proactive move to reduce congestion a usual problem on match day  through the use of mass transit and minimizing road congestion on city streets. A primary component of the announcement was that metro services continued running until after dark.

Trains are set to continue from 11pm until 2am, leaving fans free to go home comfortably when matches are over. It would be a change that would take away the headache for all the commuters, more a hassle for the people going down from the peripheries of Bengaluru.

The final train timings on the various routes have been carefully arranged. Whitefield has its last train leaving by 12:30 AM, while Challaghatta will depart by 12:45 AM. And Silk Institute and Madavara services will remain until 12:45 AM.

That means that Bommasandra passengers will catch the last train at 1:00 AM, and the last metro from RV Road will drop at just 2:00 AM. Majestic Station, the city’s central interchange hub, will also offer last train connectivity at 1:30 AM in all four directions. To provide a more convenient option, IPL match tickets will be a QR code linked to the metro which will connect both ends to the stadium for fans.

Ultimately this integrated approach would be beneficial in the future and would greatly simplify the access movement of huge loads coming in and leaving. BMRCL also advise fans to travel to the nearby (and already close to the stadium) metro stations Cubbon Park Metro Station and MG Road Metro Station there. These are the primary conduits at which fans catch the matches. More parking at metro stations has also been established in an effort to assist commuters on their way. Parking is for two-wheeler riders at ₹30 and car users at ₹60, so anyone who wants to drive or get to the nearest station via metro can do so.

Since Bengaluru becomes very congested during mega events, BMRCL has pushed people to use the metro instead of bus, to prevent congestion and keep the traffic better. The new measure also significantly increases the up-market of the match day city of Bangalore, and demonstrates that the city is now more likely to have sustainable urban mobility solutions aligned with an environmental mission.
