The future of public transportation in Bengaluru is quickly taking shape as the Pink Line (Reach 6) of the Namma Metro prepares to welcome its first driverless train.
First Driverless Train Ready for Arrival
The Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) has successfully manufactured and unveiled the first set of driverless metro trains for the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited's (BMRCL) Pink Line. This state-of-the-art train is a major milestone and is expected to reach the Kothanur Depot on December 15 or 16.
BMRCL has placed an order for a total of 23 driverless trains for the entire Pink Line. In the initial phase, six driverless trains are slated for delivery to the line.
BEML's Commitment to Expansion
BEML's role extends beyond the Pink Line. The company is tasked with supplying a total of 318 standard gauge metro coaches for both the Pink Line and the upcoming Blue Line metro projects, underscoring its pivotal contribution to the expansion of Namma Metro.
Partial Opening Planned for 2026
Excitingly, BMRCL is making preparations to open the first stretch of the Pink Line in the summer of 2026. This initial phase will cover six elevated metro stations, running from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere, marking a significant step toward improving connectivity in the city.
