BESCOM announced today that some online services will be temporarily unavailable for 20 towns in Karnataka due to a software upgrade exercise. The suspension of services will take place from midnight on September 15 to midnight on September 17 and will affect thousands of customers who use BESCOM’s online platforms for electricity services.
The temporary disruption is necessary to support a new IT application under the Government of India-supported Integrated Power Development Scheme, the company stated. The upgrade is to give consumers faster, more efficient, and technologically advanced digital services in the future.
During the two days of maintenance, many of the important online facilities will be unavailable. Consumers will not be able to pay electricity bills through the BESCOM website or UPI-enabled applications. Applications for new residential or commercial electricity connections will also be unavailable during this period.
Moreover, services related to ownership transfer of electricity meters, requests for additional electrical load, load modification approvals, and other citizen-centric online services through the BESCOM portal will be temporarily suspended. They have told customers to plan their transactions and take urgent action before the maintenance window.
The affected towns are under BESCOM’s service jurisdiction and include Bagepalli, Devanahalli, Gudibande, Magadi, Malur, Nelamangala, Srinivaspur, Vijayapura, Channagiri, Chikkanayakanahalli, Gubbi, Holalkere, Honnali, Hosadurga, Jagalur, Koratagere, Madhugiri, Molakalmuru, Pavagada, and Turuvekere.
There will be inconvenience for residents and businesses in these towns accessing the digital electricity services. BESCOM has made it clear that the suspension is only digital and not related to any planned interruption in power supply. Distribution and regular operations will not change.
They said the software modernisation initiative is intended to improve customer experience by speeding up and improving the service to customers in digital services. The upgraded system will also be used for improved service delivery, easier processes, and faster accessibility to people when it is completed.
BESCOM has appealed to the public to cooperate during the maintenance and not engage in online transactions until services are fully restored. Customers who need online services are told to wait until after September 18, when the upgraded platform will be operational.
The electricity utility also added that its official website and its digital services may not be accessible during the upgrade process. Customers are encouraged to stay updated through official BESCOM communication channels for any updates on the restoration of services.
Karnataka is making the transition toward digital governance and online utility management, and for millions of electricity consumers in the state, these upgrades are critical to improve its power infrastructure and service quality.
