In this inspiring incident taken from Kolar district’s KGF, one young student had enormous courage and determination. Sixteen‑year‑old Kusuma from Chinnanaganahalli, who lost her leg in an accident, arrived at her SSLC examination center by ambulance. Despite her admission to hospital for treatment, she continued to write her exam. Her story has come to symbolize both resilience and determination to countless students.
Kusuma is an SSLC examination prepared student. When a serious accident struck her, it led to a loss of her leg. At the time of treatment, she was forced to decide whether to delay her surgery or take her exams. Through overwhelming determination, she made it clear that her focus was one of education. With the support of her mother, she made it to St. Joseph’s School exam center, convinced to write her paper.
Kusuma, who was taken to the center, was delivered by ambulance on the day of the English exam. With her mother’s help, she was taken inside on a stretcher. She managed to write the exam from the stretcher itself and special arrangements were made for it to take place there. Kusuma managed to finish up her paper despite her physical pain and emotional struggle. Her bravery moved everyone in the center.
It is here that we see lessons we ought to take away.
- Courage and Determination: Kusuma’s refusal to postpone the examination despite her accident demonstrates in action the strength of resilience.
- Support System: The relationship with her mother and help from the public, which includes cooperation from education officials, shows how family and institutions can give a hand to needy students.
- Policy and Compassion: The Department of Public Education allowed Kusuma to take the exam in this special way, showing flexibility and empathy in the moment, as seen here.
Kusuma’s spirit was praised and she got the support needed, education officials said. Her courage was inspiring to teachers and other students. She’s also been recognized by the public as a role model showing that the spirit of a determined person can face the toughest challenge. The decision she made to put off surgery to take the exam is now regarded as a remarkable testament to her commitment to education.
Kusuma is an example of this point in the KGF program and why her story is about nothing but going out on one's own, rather than writing an exam; it was a story not only for reasons that she and others must now accept as a human right but also of bravery, hope and more especially education. So many people feel inspired by the fact that she did not only go to see SSLC in spite of having a leg amputated in the accident. This incident is a reminder that the ultimate strength is in never giving up when things are tough.
