Chamba Accident: Seven Dead as Bolero Falls Into Deep Gorge in Himachal Pradesh

A road accident in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district has killed seven people after a Bolero vehicle plunged into a deep gorge during the early morning. According to initial reports, the accident occurred at around 2:00 am when the Bolero vehicle, with seven people in the vehicle, was returning from a social function in Kakrodha village. The passengers were going back to Mahal village, which falls under the Kutehd Gram Panchayat area, when the tragedy occurred.

The driver lost control of the vehicle as he was driving along the hilly road, authorities say. The vehicle then veered off the road and plunged into a deep ravine. The Bolero was mangled significantly due to the fall, and there was little chance that there were any survivors.

All seven people in the vehicle died on the spot, said officials. There were three women and three men, and efforts were made to find and identify them all. Local authorities eventually confirmed that all those killed were residents of Mahal village.

It was only after residents and tourists saw the wreckage in the gorge and alerted authorities. Police personnel, district administration officials and rescue teams rushed to the scene immediately when they heard of the accident, local officials said.

But rescue operations were difficult due to the challenging terrain. The accident site was located in a steep mountainous area, and the darkness of the night made rescue work very difficult. Teams had to descend into the deep gorge to assess the extent of the damage and recover bodies.

Local villagers also joined rescue workers in the operation and helped with the rugged landscape. Despite the poor conditions, police, administrative officials and residents were able to rescue the victims.

The tragedy once again highlights the dangers associated with travel on mountainous roads in Himachal Pradesh. In the area, there are many narrow roads and steep slopes, and poor visibility at night. Drivers must be very careful when driving through hilly terrain in the late-night hours, they say.

The sudden loss of seven members of the same community has rocked the district. Family and neighbours gathered at the scene and later at local hospitals as news of the tragedy spread. They described the victims as respected members of the community who had attended a village function before beginning their journey home.

Officials are sending their condolences to the families and all support to them. The district administration will respond to families affected by the tragedy.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. Speeding, driver fatigue, road conditions, mechanical failure, etc., could have caused the accident, according to officials. The police will also examine the vehicle and interview witnesses.

The accident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers to travellers on mountain roads and why road safety should be taken into account in mountainous areas. The focus of the investigation, however, is on the grieving families and the real cause of the fatal crash.

The Chamba tragedy has left a whole village grieving, seven lives lost in a matter of moments during what should have been a routine journey home.
