The harrowing scene that took place in Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh, India, when a woman attacked her husband with a knife after he had fallen asleep because she thought he was having an affair.
The woman has been arrested by police, who are investigating her. The victim was a mason, Rajesh Kaushik. He was severely injured at the time of the attack and was taken to Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences for emergency medical treatment, reports said.
Doctors said the victim has lost a lot of blood and remains in critical condition. Rajesh Kaushik and his wife Draupadi Bai had been embroiled in years of marriage disputes, none of which had been resolved, police officials told CSJ.
The allegations indicate that the woman believed her husband was cheating with another woman, and that the couple bickered regularly and created friction in their family. The pair had been eating dinner in the same room that night, and police discovered them later asleep.
But while Rajesh appeared to be asleep well into the night, it was alleged that Draupadi Bai had seemingly reached for a knife to hit him when furious, based on her deep-seated doubts. While critically injured, the victim allegedly fled the room screaming out for help. The couple’s youngest son awoke to the cries, calling relatives and other family members nearby.
Relatives immediately ran to the house and took Rajesh to the emergency room. Police arrived upon discovery upon arrival to the scene, and immediately, however, they arrested the accused woman. The police then said the brutal attack was connected to a suspected extramarital affair and an unresolved domestic strife.
A move is made for further investigation against the accused woman for some very peculiar purposes of the law. Police are also recording statements families and neighbours made about what happened, seeking to piece together the dots.
The shocking case has sparked a nationwide response, with residents warning that family quarrels were turning into violence. The authorities have said it’s not violence, but legal and counselling services are sought by the family in extreme cases of family discord.
