Chikkamagaluru: Police have seized a large quantity of ration rice illegally transported in Ajjampura taluk of Chikkamagaluru district.
The action was taken jointly by the taluk administration and the police after officials noticed a vehicle that was transporting ration rice. The vehicle was seized during the operation at TB Road in Ajjampura town.
According to the police, there were 90 bags of rice found in the vehicle. Each individual bag weighed about 50 kg. The total amount of rice seized was about 4,500 kilograms (4.5 tonnes).
The seizure has raised concerns over the illegal transportation and diversion of rice to be distributed through the public ration system.

The joint operation was conducted by officials of Ajjampura taluk administration and local police. At TB Road in Ajjampura town, officials saw the ration rice being transported in a vehicle.
Following the discovery, the vehicle was seized, and the rice was taken into custody for further investigation.
Officials are expected to take stock of the rice’s origin, the destination, and the circumstances in which it was transported.
90 Bags of Rice Recovered
The authorities recovered 90 bags, each bag believed to be 50 kg.
Based on the reported weight, the total is about 4.5 tonnes of rice. The huge amount led officials to take immediate action and seize the vehicle.
The rice was taken from the government distribution system and was transported without permission.
Suspect Taken Into Custody
A person identified as Rabby, reportedly from Channarayapatna in Hassan district, has been taken into custody in connection with this case.
The accused will be questioned about where the rice came from and where it was transported. More about the alleged supply chain and transportation will be revealed as time goes on.
Officials are also likely to verify the documentation related to the vehicle and the rice.
Case Registered at Ajjampura Police Station
Following the seizure, a case has been registered at the Ajjampura Police Station.
