A tragic road accident in Andhra Pradesh’s Palnadu district killed six people and injured eight others in a bus collision with an auto-rickshaw near Chilakaluripet on the afternoon of December 24th. Emergency services rushed to the site immediately after the accident and sent the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The accident happened when a passenger bus travelling through the Chilakaluripet region collided with an auto-rickshaw carrying several passengers. The auto-rickshaw was badly damaged, and some occupants were trapped inside. One witness said, “They could hear a loud crash,” he said of the victims’ screams for help and calls for emergency services and rescue.
Six people died at the scene of the accident, or while being transported to the hospital, the police said. The victims were in the auto-rickshaw, which bore the brunt of the impact. All the deceased have been identified, and families have been notified, the authorities said. The bodies were sent to a government hospital for post-mortem examinations as part of legal procedures.
The other eight people suffered injuries of varying degrees in the crash. Medical personnel immediately gave first aid and carried the injured to nearby hospitals, hospital sources said. Some victims suffered fractures and head injuries, and many had multiple wounds, hospital sources said, and some of them have multiple injuries. Doctors are monitoring those who were seriously injured, and some others are in stable condition. All medical treatment was provided to the victims, local health officials said.
The accident temporarily disrupted traffic as officials brought the damaged vehicles off the road. Traffic was delayed as officials tried to perform rescue operations and collect evidence from the accident site. Traffic resumed when all vehicles involved in the collision were removed from the road, and the road was cleared for travel.
The cause of the accident is still being investigated. Preliminary evidence indicates that overspeeding, driver error, or even a driver’s attempt to overtake may have caused the accident, but it’s impossible to say for sure based on witness accounts, vehicle conditions, and other information.
