Chief Minister D K Shivakumar confirmed the state's commitment to strengthen relations with the US and said dialogue, engagement and cooperation would be the key to the development of the state and people and businesses.
The US ambassador to India said Karnataka is eager to maintain dialogue with the US in the future and for regular engagement and mutually beneficial discussions to strengthen relations.
Shivakumar said: “It’s always a pleasure to reconnect with the US Ambassador to India.” Karnataka will continue to build its relationship with the United States through dialogue and never-ending interaction, and that will also create more opportunities for citizens and businesses.
The comments come at the time when India-US economic and strategic relations continue to get much attention. The United States ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, has recently referred to India-US relations as a historic high point and has called for more trade and investment between the two countries. And India-US relations are still very much in the business of market access, manufacturing, technology and investment because there are still very many questions in the bilateral relationship.
For Karnataka, greater interaction with the United States is especially significant because the state is one of India’s top technology, innovation, manufacturing, startups and global services centres. Bengaluru, known as the capital of technology in India, has a significant number of American companies which are the very backbone of tech, research, engineering, and business operations. So cooperation with the U.S. companies might open up opportunities in many areas.
With the Karnataka government increasing international investment and becoming a destination of choice for global companies, the state is expanding international collaboration in technology, investment, innovation, aerospace, defence and advanced manufacturing. Indian diplomatic officials have also met in Karnataka in order to enhance the cooperation and international economic links of the state.
The chief minister’s remarks highlight the requirement of regular communication with international partners. Rather than looking at foreign investment only in terms of capital flows, Karnataka is looking at partnerships which it can use to foster technology transfer, job creation, innovation and access to global markets.
The United States is still a key economic partner for India with US companies operating in multiple sectors and Indian companies increasing their presence in the US. Indian companies have invested around $40 billion in the US and support around 70,000 jobs there according to recent US Embassy reports. And such a two-way economic relationship shows that the India-US business relationship is becoming more and more connected.
Karnataka’s collaboration with American companies may also help to expand new industries and strengthen existing sectors. Technology, artificial intelligence, electronics, aerospace, biotechnology, advanced manufacturing and digital services are among those areas where international partnerships could play a major role in the state’s future economic development.
And opportunities for people as well as businesses are important. International investment can create jobs, skill acquisition opportunities, entrepreneurship and new supply chains. For local businesses, stronger global connections can lead to greater integration with foreign companies (e.g. multinationals) and access to international markets and a deeper involvement in the technology ecosystems.
Karnataka is also in competition with other states to attract huge investments. Investment proposals of ₹29,679.20 crore were approved by a high-level committee headed by Shivakumar recently to create around 66,360 jobs in the state and the government has been stressing investment-led economic growth and job creation.
Karnataka is thus going to remain very much on the United States’ radar as the state strives to increase its position in the global economy. Continued cooperation with American officials, businesses and institutions will enable Karnataka to develop new areas of cooperation and attract investment in the industrial and technology sector.
Shivakumar’s latest message is another example of how dialogue is the key to sustainable partnerships. Regular communication between government representatives and international stakeholders would be useful in finding investment opportunities to address business concerns and to create an environment for companies to expand their operations.
Karnataka will continue to pursue international partnerships as part of its economic strategy at a time of increasing investment competition internationally as well. With a good technology ecosystem, highly skilled workforce, established industries and startup culture, the state has a very good space from which to engage with foreign investors globally.
The latest interaction with the US ambassador is in line with an emerging India-US economic partnership overall. With both sides focused on investment, trade, technology and business partnerships, Karnataka is positioned to play a more active role in translating broader bilateral opportunities into state-level economic growth.

Karnataka’s message is clear: long-term international engagement is still going to be an integral part of Karnataka’s development plan. With United States engagement and greater collaboration between governments and businesses, the state is going to take the lead in establishing new investment opportunities for innovation, job creation and expansion in the future.
