A tragic road accident in Karnataka’s Davanagere took the life of a 50-year-old motorcycle rider after a tipper truck was involved in a collision that killed the motorcycle driver in the Bumbu Bazaar in the city.
The truck was seen by a nearby CCTV camera and has since been included in the police investigation.
We now know that the victim is Manjunath, a resident of Saraswati Nagar in Davanagere. The accident happened when Manjunath was on his motorcycle in the busy Bumbu Bazaar area, said the police.
Manjunath was trying to overtake a tractor moving ahead of him, preliminary investigations show. A tipper truck approaching from behind struck the motorcycle, and Manjunath lost his balance and fell on the road, where he was run over by the heavy vehicle. He died before medical attention could be given to him.
The terrible sequence of events was recorded by a local CCTV camera installed near the accident site. Police are now going to look at the footage to determine what happened.
Local people gathered at the scene soon after the incident, and police and emergency workers rushed to the scene. The body of the victim would be taken to the morgue for post-mortem examination before being given to his family.
The driver of the tipper truck was taken into custody for questioning, authorities said. More witnesses and more information are being collected as part of the investigation. Any legal action will be taken based on what has been found out.
