New Delhi has been transformed into a high-security zone ahead of the BRICS Summit 2026, and there is a heavy focus on traffic restrictions, road diversions and security measures in the capital. Several world leaders will also visit, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and other heads of state from BRICS member countries, in the coming weeks.
The Delhi Police has provided a comprehensive traffic advisory in cooperation with public safety agencies to ensure that the official delegation is moved in an orderly manner. A traffic advisory has also been issued for all commuters in advance to take public transport when possible at any time and at places that could be hit by heavy traffic during the summit.
Security has been greatly enhanced around important venues, hotels, diplomatic zones and routes leading to visiting dignitaries. Thousands of security personnel have been deployed throughout the city, and surveillance systems, checkpoints, and vehicle screening operations have been strengthened.
According to the traffic advisory, there will be restrictions on several roads connecting central Delhi, the diplomatic enclave and the summit venues. Temporary closures and diversions may be necessary where VIP convoys and security needs take place.

Traffic on those roads might be temporarily halted when foreign delegations travel between airports, hotels, and conference venues.

The authorities have warned commuters of congestion in:
- Chanakyapuri Diplomatic Enclave
- Central Delhi
- India Gate Circle
- Pragati Maidan vicinity
- Aerocity
- Dhaula Kuan
- Delhi Cantonment area
- Connaught Place surroundings
- New Delhi Railway Station approach roads
Travellers going to the airport will be advised to leave earlier than usual and follow live traffic updates on the go.
Public Advisory
Delhi Police has advised residents to use Metro services wherever possible since Metro operations will be the most reliable mode of transportation during the summit. Commercial vehicles may also be restricted to certain routes during peak security periods.
Emergency services, including ambulances and fire services, will be given priority. Authorities have assured the public that they will do everything they can to minimise inconvenience and protect international delegates and residents.
The BRICS Summit 2026 will bring together leaders from some of the world’s fastest-growing economies to meet on trade, economic cooperation, technology, climate action and global governance reforms. New Delhi is, of course, a city that has been under high security at the same time as the rest of the world to ensure that the summit goes smoothly and successfully.
